Yesterday, the local group of Surface Design Association held a trial run for an indigo dyeing day which is to be held at the Center for Contemporary Craft as their next Hands On Houston (Sep 6th). Several of us from the group did some practicing, made some samples and did some personal dyeing. After I made a couple of samples, I dyed a couple of scarves for myself. Now I have some wonderful blue pieces in my wardrobe. I do love playing with indigo. Just not brave enough to set up my own pot yet.
This is the first week I have nothing in my dyepots. Do plan to make up for it this weekend.
I have unrolled many bundles this week. One of them was a t-shirt. I was so excited when I opened up the bundle to find what is pictured. This was the first piece of clothing I had done and was not sure what would happen. First it was heavy cotton and I needed to print on both sides. And there were sleeves to consider. And, as always, I was trying a new technique.
The print could not have turned out any better. I have included a couple of closeups here. Will take a picture of the whole piece and post as well as posting all the other pieces that were unfurled this past week.
Created this asymmetrical vessel. Looked good but needed something extra.
Added some wonderful mohair curls. Looks like it’s ready to party!
